This course is an introduction to basic family issues. First, the term "family" is defined and its historical changes are traced and then the current understanding of family and parenthood is explained. A special focus is placed on new family types such as single parents, patchwork or rainbow families. Subsequently, basic systemic assumptions and the understanding of family in the context of larger social systems are conveyed. Furthermore, family development, developmental tasks and the diverse relationships within families are examined. The aim of the course is to provide a sound understanding of the diversity of types of family life and the dynamics that occur in families in order to best prepare professionals for their supportive work. In addition, it is intended to enable an in-depth examination of one's own professional approach in the context of working with families.
