Stay in a psychiatric hospital
Socio-pedagocial Family Support • Case-specific courses • Family crises
This course provides socio-pedagogical professionals with a sound overview of key topics at the interface between socio-pedagogical family support (SPFS) and psychiatry. The aim is to strengthen confidence in dealing with mentally ill parents and children, to convey legal principles in a practical way and to show helpful strategies for everyday working life. The course begins with a brief introduction and then provides basic psychiatric knowledge relevant to working with affected families. This is followed by legal aspects, particularly in relation to child endangerment, reporting obligations and psychiatric placement. The effects of parental mental illness on the entire family system and the role of the professional are highlighted. Special challenges, such as suicidal crises or psychotic experiences, are combined with specific strategies for action. In addition, a separate section is dedicated to the psychiatric treatment of children and adolescents and its significance in assistance planning. Finally, attention is drawn to the self-care of professionals in the face of the emotional stress that often accompanies this topic.
