Parents with mental illness
Socio-pedagocial Family Support • Case-specific courses • Psychiatric conditions
This course provides a comprehensive overview of mental illness in the context of social pedagogical family support (SPFS), with a particular focus on parenting. It begins with basic definitions, statistics and causes of mental illness and highlights specific challenges that arise from parenting in the context of mental stress. This is followed by a practical presentation of typical medical conditions: from anxiety disorders, psychoses and personality disorders to post-traumatic stress disorders, addiction, obsessive-compulsive and eating disorders, as well as neurodiverse manifestations such as ADHD and autism in adulthood. Finally, concrete approaches for SPFS professionals are described to help them recognize mental health issues at an early stage, build sustainable relationships and, at the same time, keep an eye on their own professional health. Example cases and materials for practical application round off the course.
