Parentification
Socio-pedagocial Family Support • Case-specific courses • Problematic family interactions
This course deals with the topic of parentification – i.e. the reversal of responsibility between parents and their children. Children often feel responsible for the physical and emotional well-being of their parents and therefore take on the caring role in the family. This occurs particularly often in stressed families that are encountered in the context of socio-pedagogical family support (SPFS). This course begins by defining the term. It then examines the different roles that children and adolescents take on in the family context and the factors that increase the risk of parentification in families. Finally, it highlights the implications for the practical work of socio-pedagogical professionals in SPFS.
