School Support Assistance • Additional courses
Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI), or simply self-harm / self-harming behavior, refers to the deliberate infliction of physical injury without suicidal intent. This phenomenon is more common among young people than is often assumed and poses particular challenges for school support assistants. This course begins by examining theoretical aspects such as the causes, functions and perpetuating factors of self-harming behavior. The practical section then presents helpful conversation strategies, recommendations for action in acute crisis situations and other everyday support options for those affected.
